Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has stayed at the Reefs in June ? My questions are if the beach is really crowded ? Are you sitting side by side with everyone or do you have enough room ? Do they have enough umbrellas ? Are the umbrellas down at the beach or are they in your rooms and you have to carry them down to the beach ? I think I read something about that they have the umbrellas in your room.

Also I was wondering do they have big waves ? Is there an undertow ? Do they have a lot of rocks in the water ? Is it a sandy bottom ?

I'm sure I'll have more questions later but for now that should keep everyone busy answering these.

Thanks for sharing,

Judy

Though we've never stayed at The Reefs, we have visited friends and family who have over the years and lunched at Coconuts many time. The Reefs is a relatively small hotel and the its private stretch of beach is long enough to accommodate its guests without any apparent 'crowding'. Frankly, I can't recall a time that we've ever visited The Reefs and seen mor than 25-30 guests (usually less) on it. We were just there for lunch at Coconuts, on an absolutely perfect Bermuda beach day in early July and I don't think that there were more than two dozen people either on the beach or in the water during the two hours that we were there. The beach is typical fine/powdery Bermuda sand with flecked pink ground corals. The beach area has light to moderate surf (depending on tide state--relatively 'flat' at low tide/light-to-moderate at high tide) and well protected by broken reef just offshore. The portions of broken reef and 'boilers' just off the beach also provides an excellent and relatively well protected area for snorkeling for average swimmers. To the best of my knowledge and observation, large beach umbrellas, chaise lounges and/or sand chairs are provided to guests from a facility down on the beach itself (there may be umbrellas in individual rooms---but these may be for use at patio tables just outside of the individual rooms themselves)---as are snorkeling equipment and small, roto-molded kayaks, etc). There is also limited food and beverage service--with the full-service Coconuts restaurant up a few steps from the beach. Under the right circumctances and conditions, a temporary 'rip' can be created on almost any stretch of natural beach but given the broken pattern of offshore reef of this stretch of beach, 'rips' or 'under-tows' would be highly unlikely. ON an island where few private beaches come close to the beauty of the public beaches, The Reefs has perhaps the best private beach on Bermuda.

Hi Judy, my wife and I have been to the Reefs several times over the years. One of our trips was the last week of June into July. Their section of beach is quite adequate so you do not feel crowded by any means. There is a fellow at the beach who will get you an umbrella, most times we have just used the chairs and umbrellas that they set up each morning. Umbrellas in the rooms are rain umbrellas for the very occasional shower that falls on the island. As far as I know, there is no undertow. And if you go by the name The Reefs, the beach is among large rocks but there is a sandy bottom. Great snorkeling around the area!!!! You will enjoy the Reefs tremendously. High service, fantastic dining and a great location with a very meticulously maintained property. As a matter of fact, just this morning I booked our 6th trip to The Reefs for this July, can't wait to go. Regards, Poppa

Judy,

We stayed at The Reefs last June and are going back at the same time this year. To us the beach never seems "too" crowded. We have not had a problem with chairs or towels, except that towels may get scarce at the end of the day. Grab one early from the pool area if you don't plan to beach it until around 4:00 P.M. or so.

They provide cold water and lemon water all day as well as drink service. We find it great that they also provide snorkeling gear and flotation stuff at no charge. Saves on the luggage space! And the beach attendant could not be more helpful.

As for waves, June is a great time to go. You should not experience undertow and will hve good visibility to see all the fish. Even far off hurricaines in the Fall can roil the water a little.

We have stayed at The Reefs many times and can recommend it highly.
