South Shore Park Beaches |
|
I want to explore the smaller beachs and coves between Horseshoe and Warwick Long Bay. Somehow, I always miss the right road to take from the South Shore Rd. The map does not show the smaller roads. I find it hard to concentrate on my driving the scooter and looking for the correct road down to the beaches. Any landmarks or street names would be most helpfull. I don't have the confidence that I had 35 years ago, its getting harder every visit. Thanks much Report as inappropriate |

You're not missing them, there are no roads, per se. There are clearly signed turn-off into beach parking area and then a walk from parking lot to beaches. The first turn off on the South Road (on your LEFT--the ocean side naturally) will be WARWICK LONG BAY (Eastern End), then WARWICK LONG BAY/JOBSON'S COVE, then STONEHOLE BAY CHAPLAIN COVE (directly across from the Bermuda Regiment barracks), then HORSESHOE BAY. If you want to explore this stretch of beach, you can pull into any these parking areas, park your scooter, and walk in from there and begin exploring...from east to west the beach names are WARWICK LONG BAY, JOBSON'S COVE, STONEHOLE BAY, CHAPLIN BAY, HIDDEN BEACH ANGLE BEACH, WATER ROCKS BEACH MIDDLE BEACH, BUTTS BEACH, PEEL ROCK COVE then HORSESHOE BAY. Since the ground trends slightly uphill from Horseshoe Bay, it might be a good idea to begin at this end and work your way east (to your left as your face the ocean) from there to Warwick Long Bay, then the walk back to your scooters would be mostly down hill. If you are planning to beach comb along this stretch, the best time will be a LOW TIDE when the tide is out, more of the beaches are uncovered and the water is calmer for walking out and around the several rock outcroppings along this strtch of shoreline. Try beachcombing this stretch at High Tide and some of these passages will be difficult or impassable and you'll have to back-track until you find a path up onto the cliff path to by-pass the obstacles. If you are making this trip out by public bus, then the reverse route is indicated..trending mostly down-hill from western end of Warwick Long Bay to Horseshoe Bay, where you can walk back out the entrance drive, to the bus stop on the South Road. There is a basic food/snacks/beverage concession stand at Horseshoe Bay with full bathroom and changing facilities ans pay phone. There is a small cinder block building along the path between the Stonehole Bay/Chaplin Bay parking lot and the Wararwick Long Bay/Jobson's Cove parking lot wich houses substantial separate men's and ladies chemical toilet facilities, large anough to change into or out of bathing suits. I can't recall if there are any free-standing Porta-Potties at Warwick Long Bay. Report as inappropriate | ||||||
