 Just back from The Reefs

Hi all. Just returned from a 3 night/4 day stay at The Reefs. I posted a review so it should be up soon. Absolutely loved The Reefs. I felt like it was the best value on the island since it included breakfast and gourmet dinner. We got a great rate because the cottage we wanted wasn't available so we received 2 Deluxe Rooms for $269 per room per night. Even if I was paying the rack rate, I would still say that it's a great value. Can't wait to get back to The Reefs. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

starwood - good to hear - The Reefs is very accommodating in terms of offering 'upgraded' accommodations.

Was the property crowded? Why wasn't the cottage available? Just curious.

Starwood....

So glad that you enjoyed your stay at The Reefs!. I am truly a fan of the resort......went there last year for my honeymoon, and it holds many wonderful memories. My husband and I both, absolutely loved it too!

Hi Poppa and Deb!

I had orginally reserved the cottage and then I was called and informed that it wasn't available anymore so we were offered 2 Deluxe rooms instead. We only had three people in our party so having 2 rooms felt very spacious and comfortable. The property wasn't very crowded but at dinner it sure seemed like there were a great deal of people. At the pool there were only a few people ever and the beach didn't have more than 15 people at midday. There were a few little children but didnt really bother anyone. Overall, I would go back in a heartbeat. It's truly a special place and there are so many positive aspects. I went there as a spring break trip with my grandmother and aunt and my grandmother and I are already planning to go next year!

Bear in mind that this is still the tail-end of winter / off season for Bermuda...and even with the great '..special..' that The Reefs has been running, this still isn't '..prime time..' for Bermuda (or else a property like The Reefs would have ZERO '..need..' to offer any 'special').

It's also worth noting that the dining rooms at The Reefs are relatively among the '..best..' on Bermuda....and when Bermuda residents decide to '..go out to dinner..', they tend to prefer the same better restaurants that '..tourists..' do.....(but are less inclined to whine and complain annoyingly about the menu prices....so if you've got a choice of tables, take the one next to the Bermudians...and stay away from other tourists).

Yes I definitely agree with you KDK but I think it felt more crowded because Grill 56 was the only restaurant open and we ate at 7:30 every night but it was never loud or anything because its broken up into 3 different sections. The reason it was never crowded during the day was because we were all out exploring Bermuda! And I'm so glad we saw everything we did because it exploring made us want to come back to Bermuda as soon as possible :)

BINGO....you've just hit on the #1 reason why '..RESORT BERMUDA has such a high, multi-repeat-visit rate. Visitors can do just that...with relative ease...and in comfort and safety. It'spretty much all pleasant and beautiful (well maybe not the dump out at March Folly...or the area around the Belco power plant up behind Hamilton)

I'd forgotten that at this season of the year both Coconuts and Ocean Echo were closed. I used to like the old CLUBHOUSE dining room at The Reefs...but can't quite '..warm up..' to the new GRILL 56 renovation (all very pleasant and tasteful) for some reason. The food is pretty much the same....but the some of the '..old Bermudain..' ambience is gone from the renovation...as is the '..Jackets Required..' sign on the maitre d's lecturn.

I'm headed to the Reefs at the end of April. Please tell me what you think of the restaurants. I am thrilled to have all inclusive. I have booked my first night at Grill 56, 2 nights at Coconuts a night on the beach and another at the other, whose name escapes me. Just let me know what your opinion is of the three choices they offer. Thanks ZZFairfield

ZZ- the restaurant on the upper plaza adjacent to Grill 56 is the Ocean Echo - we've been to The Reefs several times and the food has always been one of the highlights of the trip.

We've been there with three different chefs and they all have been very creative in their offerings.

The wife and I are headed back in July, can't wait; please let the Forum know of your experiences.

Have a wonderful time - it's hard not to at this gem.

Hi. Since I was there in March, Grill 56 was the only restaurant open. We ate breakfast and dinner there every day with the exception of one dinner at Cambridge Beaches. The breakfast menu was delcious at Grill 56 and they had a set menu for dinner everynight and then there were that night's specials. I thought the food was great! So, I would definitely head to Grill 56 for a dinner or two when you are there. Enjoy your trip!

Destination Expert   What's this?
for Southampton

there was a time when The Reefs dining room (now Grill 56) was the ONLY option for dining, with dining on the terrace weather permitting as that was under the stars. The whole menue changed nightly and an entree was never repeated during the week. When I was there last September, we could only dine in the Grill 56 for most of the week because of the hurricane. The menue got to be a little boring (but still good).
