Any recent input? We are considering it for a June trip.

There is also a nearby restaurant called Paw Paws that I would

welcome any comments on. Thanks.

You might want to contact the owners of Marley Beach Cottage to find out if they are still in business. A pice in The Royal Gazette last November indicated that the place was for sale and going to be re-developed as condos---but there has been no no news since then--

"... Marley Beach enters plan--

Marley Beach Cottages could be sold in the near future, pending Planning approval for a new development at the South Shore cottage colony.

There is a young Bermudian with an option to buy subject to Planning and Tourism approval, owner June Stanton told The Royal Gazette.

The potential developer wants to demolish existing buildings and build 15 new tourism units alongside 15 new residential apartments, according to the Planning application.

However, Ms Stanton said, they have received no word from Government regarding permission for the development. We are being very patient.

The cottages, she said, were built by her in 1956 by a well-known architect who also designed for the Rockefellers in the American Virgin Islands..."

As for PAW PAWS on the South Road, It is certainly the closest restaurant to Marley Beach (you could walk there in 8-10 minutes). We've never dined here but have stopped for lunch several times over the years (I STILL MISS the old PALMS CAFE--they had the BEST bugers on Bermuda) and its always been okay...but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine there.

I have already checked with the owners and they are open as usual and the sale is still pending. Even if approved, the sale would be after Dec. 05. I was seeking any input on the cottages and grounds current condition, etc. Thanks for the info, it was very helpful.

I, too, would like to know the present condition of the cottages. Are they in good condition and well cared for if there is a sale pending? Also, if anyone can describe the cottage spaces, that would be great.

Follow this link to a review of Paw Paws in the local newspaper:

theroyalgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article…

It is of the same opinion of other people I have spoken to about the food. I have therefore never eaten there but it is a perfectly pleasant place to sit outside for a drink.

The link to the Paw Paw review was extremely helpful. We know the owners of Marley Beach and have been assured everything will be up to snuff for our visit in June. What other restaurants are nearby the property would you reccomend for a casual dinner? We prefer to have cocktails at our cottage overlooking the ocean and do not want a long trip to dinner.

Thanks.

>>>What other restaurants are nearby the property would you reccomend for a casual dinner? We prefer to have cocktails at our cottage overlooking the ocean and do not want a long trip to dinner.<<<

This will depend largely on how you define "..casual dinner.." and what you consider "..a long trip...and of course your budget. The nearest restaurants to Marley Beach Cottages will be PAW PAW's, a couple of minutes from the entrance to Marley Beach,to the east and TIO PEPE's, about 5 minutes west (at the big 'S' curve just past the entrance to Horseshoe Bay) by taxi or scooter along the South Road. Of the two, Tio Pepe's will be marginally better. A bit farther along the South Road are any of the dining rooms at The Reefs Hotel--Grill 56, Ocean Echo Terrace and Coconuts. There is also the Pub room at Harnry VIII for casual dining. If you're just looking for decent food at a good price, there is the PARAQUET RESTAURANT, about half-way between Marley Beach and Hamilton. This place has more in common with a diner than a restaurant---but the food is basically pretty good and reasonably priced. It's a GREAT place for breakfast.

Boyond these, then your best bet will be to head on into Hamilton and try the several good, casual places there--Portofino's, La Trattoria, Hog Penny Pub, Pickled Onion, and the hot dog wagon in the parking lot on Front St., out by the commercial docks.
