Surf Side Questions? |
|
My family and I are staying at Surf Side in April and I have a few questions. 1. We are staying in a room with a kitchen......is there a grocery store within walking distance? I have read about some places online but didn't know exactly how far away they were. Is there a market on South Shore Road towards Hamiliton? How far away is Lindo's on Middle Road? 2. We would like to go reef fishing. Does anyone have a charter suggestion? Or would it be better to ask the front desk at Surf Side for a recommendation? Thanks in advance for your help. Mike |

Perhaps the nearest AND most convenient supermarket & liquors to Surf Side will be the MODERN MART--104 South Road (at Saint Michael's Rd) , Paget. It is located about half-way between the Surf Side and downtown Hamilton (nr. Harmony Club). It will be approx 8-10 minutes by #7--Dockyard-via South Shore Beaches-Hamilton bus route.....5-6 mins by scooter...there are are bus stops right at the market and near the entrance drive to Surf Side. In addition to this, if you are returning to Surf Side from Dockyard / Somerset, there is also a convenient MarketPlace supermarket & liquors located along the main Somerset Road in Somerset, with a bus stop right at the market. The LINDO'S MARKET--128 Middle Road (near Keith Hall Rd), Warwick, may perhaps be a few yards closer in total distance....but there will be no convenient public transportation (two buses) connection between it and Surf Side...and will take as long to get there by scooter or taxi. For relative reference, you can find these approximate locations on the '..BERMUDA Handy Reference Map..". MODERN MART-- LINDO'S MARKETS-- Sorry. I can't be as specific about fishing. Most reef fishing boats on Bermuda are private '..charters..' ....rather than 'day boats' who take individual 'walk-ons', . Some may take 'walk-ons' on occasion...but most prefer private charters. There used to be a 'walk-on' reef fishing operator, EUREKA FISHING CHARTRES, but a recent up-date from Bermyman reports them to be out-of-business. There is a small bone-fishing operator, JUMP DEM BONES, who fishes off of the inshore reefs---http://www.jumpdembones.free.bm/ Other than this, check with the front desk at Surf Side (e-mail) and they may be able to direct you to what you're looking for

There is (or at least last summer they were constructing what appeared to be) a new gorcery store on South Road about 300yds from the entrance to Surf Side (across from the gas station near the Swizzle Inn South Shore (the former Paw Paws))
