Ntaylor, We have been staying at the Renaissance since 1999, which at that time it was the Sonesta. We have been to Aruba many times staying at the Renaissance, & the Marriott Ocean Club. While these resorts are both owned/operated by the Marriott, they are very different. While vacationing without children ( i am now 33, my first trip was when I was 27) I always go with the Renaissance, but the Marina side only. Do not book the Ocean Suites. It is nice to visit but.... all the kids are there. The Marriott down at the beach end is beautiful, ocean front property but there were a lot of families, we booked that for April vaca. The Renaissance is Downtown, walk to everywhere you want to go, Carlos & Charlies 5 min. walk, Iguana Joes, 3 minute walk, El Gauchos, 10-15 min. walk. Casino in the lobby, L.G. Smith Steakhouse in the lobby. The blue bar/pool in the lobby! I have read slow service, NOT, we tip nicely the minute we sit down, get the all inclusive & the staff is falling head over heals to take care of us! I agree to the reviews that the Marina side pool is small, yes but no kids! The lounge chairs are cushioned, & if you want to the Ocean suites offers the swim up bar. There you are 5 minutes from landing, pack your bathing suit & sunscreen in your carry on, sign in at the front desk, sign up for the all inclusive, order a few drinks & lunch at the blue Martini bar & most of all ENJOY! If you are traveling with a hot date, book the private cove at the spa, if not have a blast at the private island!
