Off a cruise ship

We are off a cruise ship on a Sunday and heard that Dickenson Bay was a nice beach near the ship. Can someone give me any details as to how to get there, how long to get there, can we rent chairs/umbrellas, and any bars? Thanks for your suggestions.

Depends on what you're looking for.

Dickenson is pretty close to town, but is the busiest of all of the Antiguan beaches. So if you're after watersports and crowds (Sandals takes up a fair amount of the beach) lots of vendors but some OK beach bars and a couple of restaurants, then it's a good choice. Plenty of chair/umbrella rentals available. The Coconut Grove end of the beach is usually a bit quieter, and gives you the option to walk along the path in front of the restaurant to Buccaneer Beach, which is a little less busy.

Getting there is easy. There's a taxi dispatcher's desk right in front of the cruise ship dock. The fare is fixed at $US12 each way - if you're planning to use the same driver to return, don't pay until then. Otherwise, there are always taxis available nearby to get back to town. It's about a 10/15 minute ride, depending on the traffic.
