I am going to Antigua for the first time in June & wanted to know the best way to visit Barbuda whilst I'm there, and how best to go about booking this.
Also, how much should I expect to pay?

The easiest way is to fly over and organise a little tour with one of the excellent guides over there. The alternative is either the Excellence day trip (I don't think this runs every day though) or the ferry, which may or may not be running at the time as there have been issues with the dock over on Barbuda.

Type Barbuda Express into the Tripadvisor search box and you will get to see quite a few reviews on the ferry including mine in February 2012. The ferry can be a bit unreliable according to some but fine on our day. See my review on prices. I also had a contact number last year of 00-1-268-560-7989. They also organised the whole day for us on Barbuda with transport, guide, lunch and visiting the incredible 12-mile beach. A very memorable and treasured day.

Not so good:
- 159USD per person seemed to turn into 195USD after back calculating the actual credit card charge in ECD (do your sums before you go!)
- Additional charge of 5.40ECD per person for visiting the bird sanctuary before you get in the high speed boat on Codrington Lagoon
- The journey took 2 hours rather than 1.5 as advertised
Set off from St Johns about 8:30 am, left Barbuda about 3:30 in the afternoon.

Seriously - take the plane. It really is a much better option, and you can spend the whole day rather than just a few hours. It's just a 15 minute hop over
Like mizgeorge says take the plane. About $100 usd return and you get a much longer day there.
As for the ferry that is $220 ecd dollars which equates to 82 usd for a return trip, not the 159usd shown above.

Edited: 2:26 am, February 14, 2013The 159 usd includes the day tour but you don't get much time there. If you do take the ferry get the regular return fare then hire a tour for the day, much better. Even better doing it by plane. The ferry crossing and be rough.
