Restaurants

Hi - can anyone suggest good local, ie Antiguan/West Indian restaurants? I'm going to be staying in the Dickenson Bay area (in late January) though happy to travel anywhere. I've found in the Caribbean that the more enjoyable restaurants (for me) are not the fancy ones catering to tourists but more local ones catering to all.

Any suggestions gratefully received!!

You have

Papa Zouck Fish and Rum. 5 mims away by car. Dinner.

The Saturday BBQ at Cedar Grove, again 5 mins away by car. Lunch.

Woods Mall, just recently re opened Daily French (former Food Court). They have a counter for local Antiguan Dishes.

Again 5 mins away.

In St. John's AJ Smokehouse 5 mins or so.

Roti King excellent rotis. 5 mins or so.

Hope that helps

Agree with Mark, and in addition, Tony's (on the beach at Dickenson) usually has some local dishes. The big Epicurean supermarket at Friars Hill Road has a very good takeout counter, including lots of local dishes.

You might also like to try Nicole's Table, which adds the twist that you can cook your own! http://nicolestable.com/

Table D'hote is a nice place with reasonable prices, located just off Friars Hill Road, not far from the hotel. You may have to call to get exact directions though

If you want an Antiguan experience you MUST try Big Banana, they are well known for their pizzas but make and serve many other types of food. They are located in Redcliffe Quay, in St. John's

Also in St. John's is Delightful Chinese Restaurant, on St. Mary's Street.

Millers by the Sea is also a nice spot, located at Fort James, just a few minutes away from Dickenson Bay. You can drive straight down the road and get to it.

Russells, another restaurant, is located on the other end of the beach

When all else fails, there's always KFC!

Thanks for these suggestions. Would having an 18th month old little boy change anything, eg going to Papa Zouk for lunch rather than dinner?
