Questions about at Shoal Bay Villas

Hi- does anyone know the diffference b/w the One Bedrom Suite and the One Bedroom Deluxe Suite at Shoal Bay Villas?

Also, are the balconies on the second level private, or can you see your neighbors very easliy from the left or right of you (just wondering if you can go out on your balcony in your bathrobe to enjoy a cup of coffee without feeling like everyone can see you!) It appears and I've been told there are walls on the bottom level to give you privacy, but I wasn't sure about the second level from the pics I've seen.

I think we might get the One Bedroom Suite because we'd like the be on second level (and there are no Studios on 2nd level) because I think we would have a better view of the water. But do you know if the a/c unit will cool a One Bedroom Suite just as well as a Studio?

Lastly, I read a funny review on this hotel and someone complained about the birds (pelicans?) duving into the water right out front, and they were afraid to swim. But I haven't heard that anywhere else. Was this more of an isolated incident, you think?

Thanks! Looking to go in mid-May!

Sorry for the typo in my above post- I meant to say the birds were "diving!"

Sorry I don't have information to offer you regarding the differences in the rooms. However, your questions regarding pelicans I can answer.

Of course, the pelicans dive into the water trying to catch fish. By no means were these birds trying to hurt the swimmers. Infact, they usually move away from people in the water. They follow the schools of fish. Got to find a meal!

I would disregard that pelican review, I'd look at that as an absolute non issue. I'm pretty sure you do have privacy on the second floor, however not sure about the AC situation. Eventhough I'm thinking it may only be one unit. I'd go ahead and email Monica at SBV, she's terrific. If you don't here back from here over the weekend it could be she might not work Saturday or Sunday. However most importantly, it looks like your going to Anguilla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

beachbabyboo,

So you have decided...anguilla! You are in a similar situation as I am.

We love Provo but have been twice and want to try new places and things but that beachin Provo(is what I keep thinking) is to die for! Anguilla and the Out islands have that water and beach we look for.

I need affordable accomodations and Shoal Bay Villas looks perfect for my husband and I. THe Allamanda looks good too, I believe that I would like to be on Shoal Bay East, sounds like great beach bars, etc.

I am still thinking about the Out Islands, Exumas or Abaco. But I dont know! !! too many tough decisions to make!

ElaineF- I know, so many islands, so little time (and money!) I want to go to Exuma and Harbour Island and Eleuthera, but I can't do it all, so we'll do Anguilla now and the others next trip! I like the fact that on Anguilla you have the small quiet island with secluded beaches, yet you can "day trip" over to St Martin for shopping, etc and a completely different experience! I'll post a trip report when we get back- but we probably won't be going until mid-May.

Thanks AXA and Coolguy also for your input!

Enjoyed our 2nd trip to SBV last Nov/Dec and didn't notice any pelicans either time. Stayed in a 1 bdrm suite on the 2nd floor both times and yes you can see your neighbors, though they will not be right on top of you. An upper corner will give you more privacy and the view of the ocean is dazzling! AC helps as, sometimes it does get a bit steamy. Monica is a GEM! who has taken great care of us on both trips and if you e-mail her she will answer any and all of your questions prior to your arrival. Plan to rent a car, we spent a small fortune on taxis and driving in Anguilla is not too intense. You'll get the hang of driving on the left side in no time. Shoal Bay is one of the few places on the island where you have the option of walking to a host of restaurants; Gwen's Reggae Grill (fab lunch), Maderiman, Elodia's, Serenity, Uncle Ernie's, Ku and the restaurant right next door to the property (can't remember the name) where you'll get a 10% discount. Contact Junior Fleming (264-235-1008), for trips on his glass bottom boat to Little Bay, Scrub Island, Prickley Pear and other great snorkeling locations. Ask him to take you to see the sea fans. Also, though I'm loyal to SBV took a look at the rooms at Serenity and they are MUCH prettier with more polished decor and really lovely bathrooms. Each one has an enclosed garden bordering the shower stall. While they've redone the bthrms at SBV since our first trip, they're NO comparison to Serenity. SBV is on a part of the the beach that has a smooother sandier bottom than Serenity's beach which is really grainy and small, though the reef is closer to the shore and you'll see more sea life. We LOVE this island and wish you a wonderful, romantic holiday.
