Inexpensive accomodations? |
|
My husband and I have booked 400+ a night accomodations in Anguilla in March. He now tells me that if I spend half that amount of money on a room we can go on an extra vacation in November (maybe even back to Anguilla if we like it, and I think we will). And I'm very tempted, IF I can find just the right place. Has anyone stayed in less expensive accomodations on the island, maybe closer to $100 than $200. We are mostly looking for clean and safe. And again we are talking high season, the beginning of March. I can find information about Allimanda and Madeariman on this site. I'm thinking of some of the guest houses that are a little harder to get trip reports on because they are smaller and less expensive. |

HI. I would suggest that you look at The Anguilla Guide. There is plenty of information there about the island and all sorts of accomodations. The forum will have plenty of reports. We have stayed at the Allamanda and found the price to be good. It is clean and well maintained and very close to the beach. Zara's restaurant is on the property and Gwen's is on the beach at the end of the short path. You will find information on guest houses on the site as well. Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks, I copied this question and posted on that site. We are considering Allamanda along with several other choices. I'm having a hard time giving up the idea of losing three nights at Rendezvous Bay as I know this will be its last season.

This is my personal opinion but, when you see the beaches, meet the people and feel the relaxation in the air...where you are staying doesn't mean so much. Have you looked at Ku? We are planning to stay there next trip as it is right on the beach. Also look at Shoal Bay Villas. Have a wonderful trip.

We actually have 3 nights booked at Ku in a beachfront villa but at $395 a night plus 20% tax its not exactly inexpensive. We also have 3 nights booked at Rendezvous Bay. We may go back in the fall if I can find something OK for half of the price. I really like KU and if we do go back, would like to stay there, but at there off season price which is almost exactly half of high season. I agree with you about the room not being that important------sort of. We've stayed at inexpensive bed and breakfasts and had a great time but we have also stayed in some high end resorts with the spectacular views and total privacy and you can get very spoiled. Some of the villas look beautiful too and I have a strong feeling we'll be coming back to this island and staying in all different price ranges.

Daffy - take a look at Anguilla Great House too - same fab beach as RBH, and much lower in price. Ellen

A possible source for good rates would be the AHTA Auction. On www.anguillauaction.com, there are properties available occasionally. The current offer is 3 nights at Sirena Resort on Mead's Bay. The bidding begins at $100. Just a thought.

Ellen, Ya know Ellen,I'm not sure in the final moment, I'm going to be able to part with my Rendezvous Bay resevations. It was the pictures of that beach and resort that made me chose Anguilla in the first place. I'm considering keeping that part of the trip and going dirt cheap on the second accommodation to make up for it. I think AGH would be too high for that. I know you love RBH too. It all comes down to what I can get my husband to agree to. We'll see what happens. Beachnut, If I could get a deal like that, it would be wonderful! I'll check it out. Have you ever done the auction before?
|
Sorry for the typo. The link is www.anguillauctions.com for the AHTA properties. I haven't used it yet, but have been tempted. It's run by a good agency, the one that supports the local hotels.
|
I need an edit button. It's www.anguillaauctions.com. Good grief!
|
Take a look at Shoal Bay Villas. It's next door to Ku. I don't recall what we paid, but it certainly wasn't $400!!! Shoal Bay East is a great beach.
