Hi. While I have not stayed at either of the two resorts you mention, I would say Shoal Bay Villas. We did stay at the Allamanda just up the beach from SBV. The beach is amazing...probably one of the best in the world!!! No kidding! There are lots of beach bars...Gwen's, Elodias, Uncle Ernies...and more. The location of SBV puts you right on the beach. We are considering either KU or SBV for our next trip. Whichever you choose you will love the total relaxation on this beautiful island. The people are so nice and the laid back feeling gets into your bones.

Do you have a certain budget in mind for this trip? The more expensive properties lie toward the west side of the island (Covecastles, Cuisinart, Cap Jaluca). This summer my wife and I spent 6 nights at the Anguilla Great House and had a great time. If you are looking for total quiet and relaxation this is a very nice play to stay. Just down the beach from the Great House is Cuisinart and the Rendezvous Bay Beach Club. If you are looking for bars and restaurants on the beach then Shoal Bay Beach is the spot for you. I also spent 5 nights in the Shoal Bay area this summer and we really enjoyed ourselves. We stayed at the Madeariman which was right next door to the Ku and about a 5 minute walk to the Shoal Bay Villas. We spoke to a few people who were staying at the SBV and they all were pretty positive about their experience at the hotel. The beach at Shoal Bay was absolutely incredible.

I can't comment on Carimar, but we really enjoyed our week at SBV last year. The room was very clean and the beach is fantastic. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Shoal Bay Villas.
