Hi forum! I think I may have found the island I am looking for after reading through a number of TA forums in the Caribbean. Here is what we are looking for:
1) A place that has stunning beaches
2) Is not overrun with other vacationers-the fewer people the better!
3) Laid back vibe. We are not ones to want to party all night and we don't plan to really do any shopping other than a souvenir or two.
4) good local food places that are reasonable...we may be into 5 star resorts but we don't need lots of five star fine dining this trip. We will probably do one meal that would be at one of the high end places as our special night.
5) good snorkeling would be nice. I was rather disappointed in the snorkeling I found on Kauai (but everything else there was incredible) so how does it compare?
6) An intro to scuba dive would be great (but not a must) if that is possible. I am not sure what is required there. I dove once before many years ago in Jamaica it was great fun. They just gave me a lesson and off we went. Legalities may have changed since and unfortunately I don't have time to take a bunch of classes before to get certified before we go.
I am looking at a number of resorts with Cap J (so far) being in the lead. Viceroy looks very nice but it seems a little out of place where as Cap J looks more like it belongs on Anguilla if that makes sense? I am open to consider other places. The reviews on Cap J are a little mixed so that is why I am not sure. Being able to walk right out of the room onto the beach there is a big plus for us and I read all of the rooms have a beach view and that is a big plus too. So am I on the right track here?
Oh, and we are shooting for March, April or early May. My travel agent says I need to book this pretty soon with that timeframe.
