Talk to me about Meads Bay |
|
I will be staying at the Frangipani, and I am wondering about the surf. I love calm water and being able to walk right in and float around, but looking through the archives of old posts that doesn't seem like something I will be able to do in November due to the high surf. Any experiences? |

You probably wouldn't be able to do that even on many normal days. Meads Bay is on the Atlantic Ocean side and as such, in the winter months, can be a bit rougher than the Caribbean waters like Maundays Bay. However, Meads Bay is one fabulous beach with lots of good stuff within reach. You will not be disappointed considering that you could have done much worse than the marvelous CJ. It's a decent alternative. And your rate is a great one. You're lucky. Sit back, relax and start "limin'" ;-)

Sleepless I've had days on Meads in late Nov/early Dec where it's been Pond like and others where I couldn't get in due to the surf. It really depends. One of the reasons Rendezvous Bay is my favorite is you can almost always rely on it to be calm and swimable. Meads is gorgeous though and I think you'll love it. You can always make a couple of day trips to other beaches which is really one of the best things to do on Anguilla.

Hi Sleepless, I stayed at Carimar on Meads Bay last November, and loved it. Most days it was beautiful, calm and clear. We did have 2 days when the water was rough. The first day you could still go in the water, using some caution, the next day was impossible. So I just packed a beach bag and went to Shoal Bay for the day. I know you're staying at Frangipani - I went there twice for lunch and thought it looked great. I'm going November 7-15, and staying at Ku this time. If it's rough at Meads, come to Ku, and look for 3 "mature women" - we'll buy you a rum punch! I'm sure you're disappointed about Cap Juluca, but I'm so glad you decided to stick with Anguilla, and hope you love it as much as I do. Enjoy! Charlene

If its rough on one side of the island its calm on the other. Just hop over to another beach for the day.

We were there in March and had 6 days of bliss floating around on our rafts, then we were hit by a storm with huge ground swells and we could not go into the water for 3 days, we could just sit and watch the power of the ocean, truly amazing. You just never know with Mother Nature. Just remember, a bad day on Anguilla is better than a good day anywhere else. Enjoy your stay! Ellen

Sleeplessmom, read this thread, I don't want to scare you, but you should be prepared - you just never know with the ocean: tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g147238-i388-k1636… Frangi is a lovely property, you will have a great time. Ellen

Last April the surf was rough on Shoal Bay West where we were staying and like a swimming pool on Meads.

My husband and I were on Meads Bay last February, and there was only one day when we actually got out of the water because it was a touch rough. I have to say, though, that the water the rest of the days was amazing; I went swimming every day, and was able to just float around. It's heaven! I do agree, though, that if it is rough, just hop on over to another beach and you'll be fine! Have a blast! Uni
