car rental - insurance? |
|
Hi all - My first trip to Anguilla is a little over two weeks away, I'm so excited! I would like to rent a car but I am unsure about what the insurance requirements are. Should I purchase some type of insurance through my credit card (we did this in Costa Rica) or through the car rental agency? We are hoping to rent from Ronnie Bryan. Please share any advise you may have. Thanks again - hope to see some of you all in late May! |

We rented a vehilce and our credit card atuomaticly picked up the insurance as long as you decline the car rental insurance. Have fun on your trip!

A few things you need to check: Check with your credit card company for the right information. You want to ask the following specific questions: - Am I covered for damage to the vehicle itself? - Am I covered if I cause damage to a third party ( injury to another person or damage to someone's else's property). - Am I or anyone in my car covered for medical expenses arising out of an auto accident? These are all separate and distinct coverages. Also check with your auto insurance carrier and/or insurance agent as well. In addition make sure you are covered for accidents occurring outside the US and it's territories. You can't be too safe or sure to ask!

I always take the insurance, it is such a paltry sum and I don't want to deal with insurance problems on vacation. If you rent from Ronnie, I think the insurance is included in the price. Have a great trip. Ellen

We've always used Island Car Rental and never get the insurance because it is automatically taken care of by our Visa card.

Read the fine print. I called my insurance company and was told I was covered outside the U.S. everywhere except Mexico. So I'd been declining additional coverage in Anguilla. But then I found out I am not covered if a lawsuit arises outside of the U.S. or for unisured motorists. Seems easier to take the car rental insurance and avoid any potential headaches.

An aquaintance was told she was covered in Europe and did not take the insurance, got in an accident, and everything was covered BUT loss of use of the vehicle. She ended up having to pay $2000.00 for the number of days the vehicle was out of service for repair. She had no recourse. Ellen
