 Meads Bay

Hi

From the pictures meads bay looks beautiful. Which beach is the nicest in Anguilla? We are looking into the Frangipani hotel for our honeymoon this June. Also just wondering what is the water like it looks calm but I have read another post that there were big waves??

thanks in advance

Everyone has a favorite! Meads Bay can be very rough and gets deep quickly but a magnificent beach for walking. Shoal Bay East is also gorgeous with silver-white powdery sand and is reef-protected so it's shallower and calmer. Rendezvous Bay is one of our favorites and no matter where we stay, we always go there 4-5 times a week. Maunday's Bay at Cap Juluca is just a perfect crescent with perfect water all the time. Shoal Bay West is fabulous -- if you eat lunch at Trattoria, you get the use of their lounge chairs for the afternoon -- beautiful views of St. Martin.

Different beaches are calmer and/or rougher at different times of the year. We go in November and the Atlantic beaches (Meads, in particular) can get rough because of hurricanes churning in the Atlantic hundreds of miles away. The Caribbean-side beaches sometimes get windy in January/February. June should be perfect everywhere!

Is Meads Bay always rough and deep or is it certain times of the year. We stayed at Cap Juluca and the water was very rough there. We will be staying on Meads Bay the first week in June. Was just wondering what we should expect, water wise ? My daughter is going the last week of June and she has an 8 year old and 13 year old and I am starting to worry about them too.

My understanding is that the beaches, including Meads, are calm in the summer. Meads Bay gets deeper more quickly than some of the other beaches (Shoal Bay East & Rendezvous) but I wouldn't worry about that unless I had a toddler with me.

Just returned from over a month at Meads Bay - the water was beautiful and I swam in it just about every day several times a day except for about 3 days when the sea was high due to weather conditions affecting most beaches in Anguilla, which made the waves a little rougher and higher than I like them. You could walk out into the water over the small surf and stand in knee deep water for a few feet until you walked another foot or two when it reached the chest area before it drops off into deeper water ( for people who are 5' to 5'11) and it was very calm and the waves at that point just calmly ripple over you.

There was a couple staying at Meads Bay while I was there, who return in June and they told me how much they love it at that time because they said it is so calm it is like a large pond with no waves at all and they scuba and said how clear the water is at that time of year and how you can see so many fish just right off the shore.

We stayed at La Sirena in Feb of 07 on Meads and had maybe 2 out of the 14 days, that the surf was up too high to swim. This island has so many beautiful beaches that you really shouldn't limit yourself to one. Take a drive each day to experince them all. Our favorites were Rendevous Bay, Upper Shoal, Shoal Bay West and Cove Bay and of course Meads. Frangipani is a very nice resort, and there are a number of other great eating places nearby also.

I would look next door at the Meads Bay Villa Resort, very romantic.
