Hello,

I am planning my honeymoon, and have finally decided on Anguilla as my second location. We are going to be in Saint Martin for 5 days first. I have looked at St. barts and St. Kitts but after hours or research and reading these boards we have decided on Anguilla for many reasons.

It seems to be the easiest to get to and fromthan st. Kitts, it does not seem to have the same reputation for being snobbish like St. Barts; and we are looking for easy and laid back.

Neither my fiance or I are into the Cap Juluca or Cuisinart kind of place (although I would not mind going to one of the cooking demonstations at Cuisinart), we would prefer a place where we can make our own breakfast, and just get some much needed R&R, lay on the beach etc. We do not need a fancy venue at all.

We do want a place that is clean, near the beach, and has a great view. Allamanda seems to have all that and from the reviews that I have ready seems to have a loyal clientele. I realize this is not the run of the meal honeymoon spot but how do you think it measures up on location, price and cleansliness?

I have read that Zara's in on the property, and gwen's is near by, but how far is the grocery store? Is it easy to get cabs? Do cab drivers do island tours? Any input that you can offer me would be great!

Thank you!

Felicia

I found Allamanda to be clean and very near the beach, and I believe the view from the third floor would be very nice. For the money, I thought it was great, and having a kitchen was a real plus. The grocery store in the Valley just before the stoplight was good, but it was about a 15 minute drive. I would recommend renting a car, since there are so many lovely beaches to explore and you can really get away from it all on some of the less developed beaches.

Allamanda isn't fancy, (and i see you said you weren't looking for that), but if you're looking for comfortable, clean and with a great beach, it's a good choice. They have a book in each room with local info, and a phone for free local calls, so you could call a cab from your room, if you choose not to rent a car. If you feel like playing at being rich, you can drive down to Cap Jaluca and have cocktails!

Allamanda does, indeed, have its fans but since it's your honeymoon, you may also want to check out Serenity (ww.serenity.ai) which is newer and has beautiful views, as well. Just may be more "special" for you.

Thanks for you help. We decided to book Ku. It was about the same price and looks to be on a great part of the beach. It looks a bit more modern and seems like a much better honeymoon choice! Now all I have to do is wait for November!!!

Felicia,

I am planning my honeymoon in Anguilla this November. I received a quote of $312 for a 7 day car rental. I've read that cabs can be expensive and a rental car is the way to go in Anguilla.

Good luck

We go in November every year & book thru Avis online -- we get $215/wk; it goes up to $240/wk at some point but we've never paid anywhere near $300.

We are only going to be in Anguilla for 4 days... I think saturday and sunday we are going to hang around shoal bay, from what I read it seems that there is a lot of activity on sunday in that area. I was considering a rental for tueday to explore the ISland and have transportation back to the ferry on wednesday morning.

Since we will be in St. Martin for the first 5 days of the honeymoon and will have a rental car there. I am hoping that are days in Anguilla will be very low key and that we will not do much.

Thanks for the advice, do you have any idea how much daily fee for a rental car is?
