All the beaches are public and open to everyone.
Go on Bob Green's site - news.ai and look under beaches. He gives descriptions and specific directions to all the beaches. Keep in mind that Anguilla is a very conservative island. The people are proud and modest, topless/nude sunbathing is not allowed nor is going into town not completely covered appropriate. When in Rome...
Don't worry about us going naked. I just like the idea of a less crowded and secluded place to have a romantic afternoon. thanks for the insight and the web address, too!
Also check www.anguillaguide.com -- there's a link on the left hand side to "Beaches" and they have aerial photos of them all with a brief description. Something different -- I like to look at the pics at Bob Green's site, as well. It's all good!
I agree with the advice to refer to www.news.ai (Bob Green's website). Also refer to www.anguilla-beaches.com for more good stuff. In general, I'd say search for the beaches on the southeast coast, the surf is very gentle and there is almost no commercial development to attract significant numbers of tourists.
But beware, they can be very hard to find. Road-name signs are a rare species on Anguilla.
In Feb, my wife and I went to Elsie Bay, which is the smallest beach, secluded and very nice. There was one other couple on the beach for awhile, then they left and we were alone.
It was very difficult to find, and we basically bumped into it. It is on the southern side, slightly west as I recall. You will actually park in someone's driveway, although the house was under construction and no one was there.
I would go in the morning, by the way -- the earlier the better if you want some shade.
