Best Beach Resort City on the Northern Gulf Coast

Looking for a shorter drive from the upper midwest. Looking at Pensacola, Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and Biloxi. Which would be the better choice for resort hotels, bars & restaurants and beaches. Would appreciate input. Thank you.

Forget Biloxi unless you like casinos; no comparison to the other beaches. Gulf Shores/Orange Beach is virtually the same place; you drive out of one straight into the other. Plenty of people love that area - I've vacationed there a couple of times but much prefer the FL panhandle. The water is (normally) a fabulous clear emerald green unless Mother Nature interferes and the beaches are sugar white all the way from Pensacola Beach to Panama City. Lots of choices where to stay, some less developed than others, some are terribly congested with people & traffic at certain times of the year. With all that, it depends on what your preferences are. Check out the Pensacola Beach area as well as Gulf Shores but of the two, I prefer Pensacola Beach, which has a good selection of beachfront hotels (and condos).

Thank you very much. That is exactly the kind of input I was looking for. As an afterthought, have you had any experience with Corpus Christie? I looked at a map and it's probably closer. Thanks again!

If you are looking at Corpus Christi, Texas, it is no comparison to the beaches of the Northern Gulf Coast. The water on the TX Gulf is not the beautiful clear blue/green color and the sand is more of a packed grey or brown color, not soft sugary white. I grew up on the Texas beaches and just recently visited Florida. I would choose FL panhandle beaches over TX any day. The last two summers we visited Seaside, FL and never encountered seagrass. I can't remember a time I've been to the TX beaches and there wasn't seaweed.

Definitely Pensacola beach! Awesome beaches and lots of great restaurants! Some clubs on the boardwalk and a free trolley if you don't want to drive! We go every year! Absolutely love it! Beautiful white sandy beaches!
