The Narrows Temple of Sinawava to Big Spring and back in Aug

Providing the weather is good and there are no flash flood warnings is the above hike possible for two fairly experienced hikers? Ten miles sounds like an easy enough distance but we've never hiked in water before. We'll start early, catching the first shuttle from Zion Lodge and are happy to be hiking all day. We're planning to rent boots, socks and sticks from somewhere in Springdale.

Take a look at some of the topics to the right for more info, when you have time.

I have done the Temple to Big Spring and back in just over six hours at about 55 cfs river flow. Note that the average time listed is about 8 hours.

If you are going to shuttle to town to rent some gear(which is optional in August), add another two and a half hours for logistics.

That being said, you are right, start early.

Thanks for the advice. I think to keep our early start we'll pay to hire the gear for two days so we can pick it up on the way into the park the day before. Eight hours sounds okay since the water will keep us cool.

Good idea to rent the equipment the day before. We rented from ZAC the evening prior to our hike before they closed and returned the next day after the hike and was charged only one day rental.

One day is fine for that hike. It isn't just the water you are walking through but the uneven river bottom that is tricky. But so beautiful.

You can pick your gear up at ZAC an hour before they close for the next day and only pay one day for it.
