December Long Weekend (3 nights) from Pittsburgh

My wife and I are looking at taking a getaway from Pittsburgh down to Shenandoah for a long weekend in Dec. (Nov. 30-Dec 3). We are planning on staying 3 nights. Any suggestions for towns to stay in and if we should stay in the same place all three nights or move around? We were thinking of maybe starting in Charlotsville and then working our way back north? How is the weather in early December?

I'll try to make some suggestions until someone more knowledgable of the area posts.........Shenandoah is beautiful, you will likely experience good weather but check the website, www.nps.gov/shen, and keep the Park info number, 540 999-3500, handy for weather and Skyline Drive updates. If you want hiking trail suggestions, post again with your interests. Charlottesville is nice, consider Monticello, Kemper Park, UVA, The Corner, downtown mall, Carter Mountain Apple Orchard, lots of wineries. Staunton has historic downtown and Shakespeare Theatre. Check out part of the Blue Ridge Parkway, nice visitor center at milepost 6 and short but heart pumping hike to Humpback Rocks, see reviews (the attraction is listed as NC but it is not NC it's VA):

Luray Caverns is very popular and close to SNP.

Hope this helps, enjoy your time in the area.
