Driving from Las Vegas

Approximately how ling does it take to drive from Las Vegas to the Wuksachi Lodge? My wife and I will making this trip in July and were also wondering if there are any interesting, must see places along the way.

This is a 400 mile drive! How many detours or stops do you want? Death Valley NP is very interesting and could be considered a Must See place for some folks, but it will be very very hot.

Here is some info on the Hwy 99 drive from Bakersfield north: tripadvisor.com/Travel-g28926-c175348

Google Maps quotes the drive time at 7 hours even. I'm not aware of many interesting stops between Vegas and Bakersfield (that stretch is pretty desolate), but Death Valley may be worth a stop. PacificNW is right about the heat though - expect temperatures to be in the 120-130 range.

If you have an extra day, the drive north from Kernville along the Kern River and then up the Western Divide Highway to Springville is worth the effort. This road has some beautiful view points, sequoia groves, and some interesting hikes. This area is part of Giant Sequoia National Monument.

The hike up to the Mule Peak lookout is fairly short but has great views.

Unfortunately, the even more dramatic Needles Lookout was destroyed by fire in 2011.

This is a fairly remote area and has no traffic like you will find in the national parks but the driving is slow and you need to have an extra day to make it worthwhile.
