Our large family of 2 adults and 6 children are planning a circular tour of CAlifornia, Nevada, Utah and Arizona, starting from San Francisco in August (We are confined to school holidays unfortunately) and desperately need some sound advice. We are staying with family in Marin County, then hiring a huge motorhome from SFO, taking it through the above states, returning it in LAX, then continuing by train to San Luis Obispo where we hire a car, and potter around, staying in big sur, then one day in SFO to say thanks to U S family for putting us up, and then fly home. We are worried about the size of the motorhome we will have to hire, in that we will have limited places to park it, and then how do we get nearer to the spots we want to see? Is there anywhere at all to park the RV in LA where we can get public transport to Disneyland which our children want to see, but the RV places look so grim around it we'd rather not stay there. We were going to Napa and Lake Tahoe from Marin County (North of SFO) but the RV place is further south of Oakland, so we may well go across country to Yosemite instead which will probably be quieter. Any suggestions on where to stay en route. Has anyone done this trip and have they got any good suggestions as to where to stay? All input very gratefully received.
