Hello, my husband and I are planning our first trip to Olympic NP (all the way from Australia, no less) and would deeply appreciate some on-the-ground advice regarding our itinerary -driving times, routing etc- and likely weather conditions. The places/things we are interested in are - Hall of Moss Trail, Crescent Lake, hot springs, wildflowers, elk, black bear and otter sitings. We would prefer not to do much ‘back-tracking’, touring-wise, and are hoping to have a plan that enables us time to connect with the spirit of place/the land and avoid heavy crowds and driving. We’ll unfortunately only have a scant 21/2 days in which to explore!! We’ll be car camping but I see from the forum that its not generally possible to reserve a camp spot. We are wanting more ‘natural’ camp grounds but would really appreciate having a hot shower available at least one night while we are in the park. We could probably comfortably hike an easy trail of up to 2miles or so. I’m also a little worried about the possibility of being rained out and wonder if anyone has any idea of the likelihood of us encountering soaking/freezing conditions. We will be picking up a hire car and camping gear from REI in Seattle and leaving as soon as possible June 21 and plan to explore the park until about 3pm June 24 when we need to be in Port Angeles for a workshop. Any suggestions would be much valued.
