First off, many thanks to those of you who take the time to read, and reply to, posts from people like me. You have saved more vacations than you realize, I am sure.
My 12-year-old son and I are interested in taking a camping trip to Mt Rainier within the next few weeks. We would be driving down from Vancouver, BC, and I am trying to sort out:
1) Which campgroup to stay at, and
2) How to get there
I'd like to be at a campgroud that has organized daytime and/or evening activities/talks, and that is close to trailheads for moderate (2 - 4 hour) day hikes. My son loves birds, especially water fowl, so anything that gets him close to feathery things will be appreciated.
I was thinking we might drive to Seattle first, spend a day and night there, then continue on to the park the next morning (a weekday). Does this make sense, given our starting point, or would Seattle pull us way off track?
Many thanks for any advice.
