8 -10 days in the Joshua tree area, where else to go?

Husband and myself and 2 sons 19 and 21 want to do moderate hiking, week between Christmas and New Years. How many days should we have in Joshua Tree NP? If 3 days should we then go to Tucson to Saguaro NP or Sedona. Both those places we have been to in the summer. Some easy biking would be fun too.

Not interested in Las Vegas, don't really drink or gambling or golf but like quaint towns with good food, some history for my husband. We'd fly into LA or Phoenix from North Carolina. Maybe 3 nights in 3 different areas? What is Palm Springs like?

You could get away with 2 or 3 days at JT.

Palm Springs is less than an hour from JTNP, and is a great place for a winter vacation. People from snowy places flock there for the mild winters.Lots of great restaurants, lots of nice places to see like the tram.

Lots of hiking nearby like the indian Canyons

Other hikes like Ladder Canyon are fun too.

Have you considered Death Valley National Park? Great park for a winter visit. And on the way you could visit the Mojave Scenic Preserve.

Yep -- about 2 days at Joshua Tree NP.

Palm Springs is nice because you can get to snow up in the mountains via the tram (check the webcam to see if there's snow). You could then hike in the snow and do tubing and other winter sports and then take the tram down and be in 70 degree weather.

Death Valley and Mojave NP will also be great places to visit in the winter. Sedona is also great place to visit if you're driving from Phoenix but will be a little out of your way.
