Where do we look for bears since most of the park is closed?

We were very disappointed on the closing of the park and it's crappy timing since we are honeymooning in the smokies. Does anyone know of good places we might spot bears since Cades Cove is closed?

Bears could be anywhere other than the park. There was one reported in Downtown Gatlinburg by the Convention Center just a month or so ago. There was a video of it on Youtube. The only one I have ever seen (in November) was on a hill along the Gatlinburg Bypass. I would suggest taking a look on here just before you leave to see if anyone has reported a sighting somewhere. it's a crapshoot, Angie. in that part of the country, bears are all over the place. the only reasons Cades Cove is a good place to spot them: there are big open fields where they graze and are easy to spot from a distance, and those bears are so used to being around people that they're largely desensitized of their fear of humans. your best bet is to drive backroads at dawn and dusk.

We have rented this cabin this week. The owners took this picture as a bear came and looked from their front porch as if it were enjoying the view. This is north east of Asheville. Bears sightings are random at best. https:/…KroonsMountainRentals

The last bear that we saw was a mother and cubs crossing the Gburg by-pass. We haven't seen any in Cades Cove or Roaring Fork, for awhile.
