We are planning to make a 1 day trip this Sunday driving from LV. Weather forecast shows scattered thunderstorms and 60-70% chance of rain. Are we ok if we just take it slow and easy there and back or would it be advisable to cancel it altogether? We already reserved a rental van and would incur a one day charge penalty if we cancel it now.

Sorry, should have stated this is for the South Rim.

You should keep your plans! The roads up to Rt 64 are all "super" highway! Rt 64 is a 2 lane road but not deserted by any means!

Take your time if it is raining heavy or pull off if you are uncomfortable driving in it! It won't last long!

There is also a 30-40 % chance it won't rain :-)

I would go. Storms are usually pretty localized, so it may be raining in one place and a few miles away dry.Storms usually move in and out pretty quickly.Just beware if lightning is present.

Don't park in any dry washes. They might not stay dry for long.

Agreeing with all. Be careful if you get caught in a heavy shower but know that it will pass quickly. Do not enter any places with water on the road.

If you get to witness a monsoonal shower in the Grand Canyon, you'll never forget it. If you see a storm from the rim, use binoculars to look for waterfalls behind it.
