Local media in Arizona is now reporting the Highway 64 is being closed to traffic today after too many people were stopping on the road and entering the closed scenic overlooks.
Is there anybody on the ground in Arizona that can confirm this and how it will be enforced? At this point I might as well just cancel my hotel reservation in Tusayan on Sunday night since HWY 64 being closed pretty much leaves me stranded out there with a lot of backtracking to do to head east for the rest of my trip.
I fly out to the Southwest tomorrow night, so I'm working to reschedule the whole Grand Canyon and Lake Powell/Glen Canyon portion of my trip. Does anyone know if sights such as Navajo National Monument and Canyon De Chelley National Monument are still open? It's a little confusing since they are both National Monuments but are also on Navajo land. They're 2 of the alternative and other planned stops on our week long trip.
Thanks for all of the help everybody.
