Grand Circle tour

I'm starting to plan a trip for Sept 2013 with my husband. Here are tentative places and dates. We like to do day hikes and other physical activities and avoid crowds. Is this enough time at each place? Should some be shorter than others? What should we do at each place?

Sunday, September 08, 2013 Las Vegas

Sunday, September 08, 2013 Hoover Dam

Sunday, September 08, 2013 Sedona

Tuesday, September 10, 2013 South Rim

Thursday, September 12, 2013 Canyon de Chelly

Friday, September 13, 2013 Canyonlands

Sunday, September 15, 2013 Monument Valley

Monday, September 16, 2013 Lake Powell

Wednesday, September 18, 2013 North rim

Friday, September 20, 2013 Zion National Park

Saturday, September 21, 2013 Bryce Canyon

Sunday, September 22, 2013 Las Vegas

You're shorting places in favor of touching more bases. Yes, you'll have one full day at the places where you spend two nights. Those are the only places where you'll have any time, even for short hikes.

Delete Canyonlands and Moab and give 1-2 more nights to Sedona or 1 to Sedona and another to somewhere else. Moab needs more time than you have. Go to Bryce before Zion to reduce back tracking.

I agree with RedRox. Seems like don't have enough time at most locations, which means you have too many destinations for the time available.

Here's something that might help with your planning:

Ok, we'll drop Canyonlands, also need to go in reverse order and week later to get rooms at Zion and then Bryce . Bryce only had 1 night availability. Added another day to Zion and Sedona. Should we stop in Flagstaff instead of extra night in Sedona?

No point in staying at Flagstaff. Adding a night/day at Sedona is a good change.

Have you booked GCNP yet?

Are you sure you want to visit both rims of GCNP? Anyway you''ll need reservations for sure esp at NR. Only one lodge there.

I was surprised that GCNP both rims were available most of month of Sept, the constraint was lining up Bryce and Zion. Got El Tovar at south rim. Will it be too cold to do narrows at Zion on Sept 16?

September usually is warm and nice in Zion. No problem to do Narrows then.

Cold really isn't the limiting factor for the Narrows; it's water flow. As long as the water flow is low enough, you can don dry suits (available for rent) and do the hike. We went in November when the water temp was in the low 30's (yes, FREEZING cold!) and had a great time.

September is ideal for your itinerary, imo.
