Suite at the Grand Canyon

My husband and I will be staying for 2 nights at the Grand Canyon along with my mother. We are going in April. We wanted to stay right at the park or in Tusyuan (along 64/180) We would ideally like 1 room that is a suite so my mom can have her own space. Maybe a set up where there is a king bed and then a seperate room with a pull out. Or something like that. Anyone know which hotels offer rooms like this?

Thanks!

Call Xanterra 888-297-2757. There are only a few such rooms in the park. They typically book on the day that reservations open up, 13 months in advance. Booking now for April 2013 you will probably have to settle for two rooms. Don't even expect them to be adjacent

Is Tusyuan considered in the Park? We don't mind staying outside the park, we just don't want to be an hour away.

No Tusayan is outside the South entrance gates of the park! It's approx 15-20 minutes of driving time to get to where you want to be inside the park!

You definitely will need to call them direct and ask for something either close together or if there is even anything available that you are requesting!

Confirming. Tusayan is outside the park. The hassle of driving, parking and walking to the rim from Tusayan will be much greater than simply opting for two rooms near each other inside the park where everything is walkable.

Thanks for the info. Is it difficult to find parking if you drive there?

Finding a place to park is not difficult but it is time consuming. And no matter where you park, you'll still need to walk, most likely farther than if you walk from a room at a park lodge.

The first site might help you with reservations and the second site gives you a video of one of the suites at the El Tovar that has recently been renovated.

Good luck to you and hope you are successful in finding what you are looking for.

I just made a reservation for a few days in Dec. at The Grand Lodge which they say is about 1 mile from the GCN park. You may want to try there. There is also a groupon available but not sure if it is good that far out.

The Grand Hotel is in Tusayan. While it is close to the boundary of the park, it is still outside the park and 15-20 minutes from the rim.

The only lodges inside the park are those listed by Xanterra:

grandcanyonlodges.com

Reservations should only be made through that website or by phone to Xanterra.

Bob is correct. Don't be mislead by lodges in Tusayan who distort their proximity to the Grand Canyon and the park. The experts here have given you the link and phone number for Xanterra, the exclusive agent for GCNP park lodging. Even some TripAdvisor links and reviews can be confusing.

If you book through Xanterra you will be inside the park. Any other choice will mean commuting to the rim and you should expect 20-30 minutes at the very least. The convenience of staying inside the park cannot be over emphasized.
