After Bryce?

We are traveling in AZ and UT, starting in Sedona, then to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, then to Lake Powell and then to Bryce. After Bryce we have 2 days before we fly back out of Phoenix. Should we go to Zion or head back via the North Rim? Any other suggestions since we have 2 days to get back to Phoenix?

I would choose Zion, but you're going need most of a full day to get back to PHX.

What time of year?

I would head to Zion, since you will have already been at the GC south rim.

To not retrace your steps thru Page, you could head back to PHX via 89 Alt and Lees Ferry/Navajo Bridge. This goes by the entrance road to the North Rim,but you don't necessarily need to go there unless you felt like you were missing something. There is only one lodge there and it closes Oct 15.Reservations are hard to get.

There is lodging in Marble Canyon (Cliffdwellers) near Navajo Bridge, or Cameron Trading Post further down the road on 89.

Add to Dez that the GCNP NR is more remote and requires more time to see less. Bad choice since you already visited the south rim.
