Is there a trail to see the sunrise?

My husband remembers reading about a trail where you go to see the sunrise. What trail would that be? Here's the big question....how early do the buses start running? or do we need to drive it? Going from July 3rd to the 7th.

Thanks

Traditionally, "the" spot to see the sunrise is the top of Cadillac Mountain.... there's a hard-surfaced loop path around the summit.... Unfortunately, because the hill grades are too steep for their propane propulsion system, the Island Explorer buses do not go to the top of Cadillac... so you'll need to drive it.... But it really is an experience to see the sun rise over the Atlantic.... Students from the University of Maine at Orono (about an hour and a half away) have made driving to Cadillac to see the sunrise a Springtime tradition for decades!

You can hike up Cadillac Mountain - the North Ridge Trail and the South Ridge Trails are the most gradual, but still challenging and long. You would need flashlights or head lamps. It's been done by many people, you won't be the first. Plan on giving yourselves enough time to hike to the summit to arrive about 30 minutes before the posted sunrise time.

Thanks everyone! We are planning on driving there, doing the short hike at the summit then driving the loop. Can't wait!

If you want a few less people for your sunrise, there are some pull-offs near the top where you can see the sunrise and maybe even be alone. You're almost as high as the summit so the view is nearly as good. It was well worth it to me to exchange some elevation for enjoying it in solitude.
