August in Alankuda: dolphins? weather?

I know it is the wrong season and I know there are no whales, but I would know if dolphin-watching is possible in August.

If yes, how is the weather in August? I know it is rainy season, but how much rain should I expect?

Thanks

Hi there,

Neither dolphins, sorry. East coast gioves some chances.

Don't worry about rain, only after 4 PM some risk. But due to the southwest monsoon winds the sea is rough, and swimming would only be possible behind the few reefs which Kalpitiya also has. No snorkel and dive due to bad visibility.

It's still low season. But probably some kitesurfing possible, this season is different from normal underwater activities.

Would not worry too much about prebooking as there'll be plenty of rooms available, but bargaining on the spot does not always give good rates. Phoning ahead a few of them might help, and then compare the rates with e.g. Agoda.

All the best,

Actually there is a remote chance of spotting the Indo Pacific Humpback Dolphin on the Puttalam lagoon especially at High Tide. There are areas we know they hang out. Easy to take a Kayak or SUP and see them. But its a chance.
