Scratch and Win Scam

We are currently staying in Karon, and when we visited Patong, we were approached by up to 6 different people trying to get us to participate in some sort of scratch and win game. Is this a scam? We saw some signs in a bar to beware but it just said its a scam with no further detail (and it was a hand written sign). Interested to know more details from anyone who knows.

Basically if you scratch you will most likely win a prize. You have to sit through a seminar on Timeshare to collect the prize.

As Andrewv65 said, there are heaps of posts about this.

Keep away from the scratch and card people or you will be taken to a timeshare seminar where there will be heavy selling.

All you have to do is say you're not interested. Its not a big deal. You tell taxi drivers & tailors 100 times a day you don't want a taxi or a suit

interestingly enough, last year, I was asked a lot by the scratch card people, this year, I'd already spent a month in Thailand before arriving in Patong, & I was ignored by them most of the time. I obviously looked like an ex-pat, rather than a tourist.

How/what do I need to do to look like an ex-pat?

I would love to not be bothered by the time share people this year.

Not long to go now :)
