Taxi & driver for half day/full day... any advice

Hi

Anyone had experience or can recommend a driver/taxi for half day or maybe full day to see the island?

Staying in Bandara Bophut & would like to see the island, not sure about options/excursions... any advice would be really appreciated.

Have considered car hire too but just want feedback, we are travelling in 1 week so if anyone can help or suggest someone reliable that would be great... thank you!

Hi lesleydel,

We are leaving in a week, 3 nights in Bangkok then over to Koh Samui. We have booked a day tour with Mr Samui on the second day we arrive - he has a website and you can contact him from there. Was very helpful over the email and was quick to respond too

His website is http://mrsamui.webnode.com

Hope you have a great time

We hired a car and drove ourselves around- it gave us freedom to do our own thing and just "doodle around" exploring for ourselves. It honestly is easy to drive around Ko Samui yourself. The traffic is light, the drivers were polite and they drive on the same side of the road as England/Australia. If you can handle city driving in UK, you can handle the traffic in Samui. We organised it through the tour desk at our hotel and they brought the car to us the next morning and collected it from the hotel the next morning. This also gave us the opportunity to drive ourselves to a nice restaurant in Chaweng Noi for dinner.

Hi

I would say go for a car hire and drive yourself. As stated above Samui just a small island easy to navigates. You will get to see more of the island on your own pace. Just a note make sure you have your international driving permit with you.

Hi

we hire a car (international driving permit is a legal requirement even if the hire company does not ask for it). Driving is really, really easy and slow pace of life.

You get to see so much more!

For some hiring a car is the way to go. For us we preferred to have a driver for the day and take us to the places we wanted to go to as well as some recommendations from the driver, no messing around with maps and navigating narrow roads like the one into the grandma and grandpa rock, just sitting back and looking out the window. We were thinking about Mr Samui but haven’t seen any reviews except 1 TA poster who keeps recommending him so was not too sure. We asked our hotel to organise a driver. We paid 2500 for a half day, sure we could have probably looked around and got it cheaper but we were happy with that price. The way we looked at it was that was around the same price as 2 people would pay on one of the organised tours but we got to leave when we wanted, spend as much time as we wanted at the places we wanted to visit and avoid the animal shows which we are not really in agreement with. We arranged this through our hotel so you could probably do the same. You can also either approach a taxi directly which will probably work out cheaper or some of the tour offices will be able to arrange for you also.

Thank you everyone for the great advice, fancy the driver/cab for half day.. like the sound of that & also certain things included in the tours would not be our thing (ie monkey show)

I think best thing to do is get IDP & decide when we arrive. We have 12nights so plenty time to check out best options, TA has given us so many idea's, things we didn't even consider so I would really like to say a big thank you to everyone!

Only problem is... my list of 'things to do' is getting bigger by the minute!!

Sorry to crash in here, hope it's ok. As some of you have hired car's I thought i would be a good place to ask. Where did you hire from and how much would we expect to pay for a days hire. Thanks!

There's plenty of car hires on the street. And well known International brands such as Avis, budget and the like. These can delivery to your hotel. Or you can organize it through your hotel. How much it's depends on the type of the car. I'm sorry can't help with the price as we only use from ours friend shop so ours price is rather different.

Good luck
