Rain in December in Saint Maartin

Would anyone know if there usually is enough rain in December in St. Maartin to ruin a beach day? and how many days it may rain during the month?

Usually it will shower for a brief period - 20-30 minutes, often at night and scattered, mostly one sunny day after another - no guarantees however - sorry - -

We were in St. Maarten from December 7th - 14th, 2010. It rained probably 3 of the days, for 30 minutes (as the other poster said). It is not a big deal. And in between the rain, it was beautiful. We only vacation/cruise in the Caribbean in late November or December and have done this for 15 years. We have NEVER had "bad" weather except for one vacation in Jamaica 12 years ago where it was cloudy every day and one day got cold enough that you didn't want a bathing suit. But, this is low season and much cheaper, so you have to be ready for anything.

Thanks so much for your reply. Would you also know if all the restaurants in Orient Bay will be open for business in December? Also, we are thinking of staying at The Palm Court Hotel. Is this a good choice?

There are quite a few restaurants and bars in Orient Village. Safari Grill (French), Ti Chi (Asian), Le Piment (pizza, casual dining), Cote Plage (French),Little Itale (pasta) Across the street is Paris Texas, a Tex/Mex place w/bar, and Tap 5 for pizza and other light meals. Le Cadre serves mostly tapas. Additionally right outside Orient complex on the main road is Rancho Del Sol for dinner and drinks.

In the Orient complex is also Cafe Plantation, and L'Astroble at the Esmeralda resort. They are both very good and more upscale.

Several beach bars have parties at night during high season - Waikiki, Budha Bar at Bikini, Kontiki and Boo Boo Jams, Aloha for lunch. Pedros for BBQ and more..

Palm Court is a nice small hotel a block from the village restaurants and beach.
