taxi cost

I prefer to hire a taxi rather than rent a car. What is the cost from sxm to Club Orient?. Cost of taxi (from Club Orient) to the shopping in Philipsburg? I understand that taxi use can be expensive but I like picking up a taxi anywhere when I'm ready to return to the resort. That has always worked best for us in St. Thomas.

A suggestion to save you some money on taxis....take a taxi to Marigot from Orient and then hop on a bus to Philipsburg. The bus is very inexpensive and since you are used to the taxi thing, I would think that a local bus will not be a problem. Then stand on back street and grab the bus back to Marigot and take a cab back to Orient from there. It's not feasible to do the bus thing from Orient but from Marigot, it's a breeze. This is, of course, if you are looking to save money.

That link for taxi rates is PERFECT, printed for my husband who is trying to decide whether we need a rental car (my answer is yes) or can cab it when we want to go anywhere from Orient Beach area. Last time we visited the island 6 years ago we had a car for our week stay - the quality of the actual cars was suspect - and I did say cars as we had to trade the frist car that would not start for another car with bad brakes (ok, choice of a car to start or stop, hmmm), won't ever use Budget there again for that reason - but having the car worked well in letting us explore the island.
