mini golf

Not our usual sort of activity but we will be in San Juan area for 6-7 days in August and wondered if there is a minigolf area near the beaches of either San Juan or Alicante centre?

We thought our two young boys might enjoy trying it in the evening.

Looking for a park area rather than a theme park as we are at the more sedate end of entertainment needs!!

Many thanks...

There is a small mini golf in Monte Tossal park which is where Alicante's less well known second castle, San Fernando Castle, is located. It is not great, although the park itself is quite nice.

There are plenty of parks in Alicante with lots of play area for kids and there is a good kids area on the Explandia in Alicante called 'Mundo de los Ninos'. It open around 7pm each night and has bouncy castles and the likes.

Depending on your kids age I would recommend the Santa Barbera castle, the ruined roman city of Lucentium and the beach at San Juan to keep them occupied.

Thank you for your reply- they are 7 and 6 so days will be taken up at the beach but we will take a look at this park one evening. Already planning to do the castle and Lucentium and we may take the tram up to El Campello one late afternoon/evening for a change of scene. We are all really looking forward to exploring Alicante and the surrounding area!

The tram goes all the way from San Juan to Benidorm if you want to do a bit of exploring and you can do a boat trip to the island of Tabarca for something different (boats leave from the marina in Alicante).

Yes I have taken a look at the tram timetables as we have also rented a villa near Venta Lanuza station for a week so will probably go up as far as Villajoyosa for trips- Benidorm is not really our scene but we may travel up to Calpe if we're feeling adventurou/energetic! Our initial plan was to be in Moraira for two weeks but we eventually thought it was just a bit off the track as we will not have a car.

Hi jjcndi, I notice you were in Venta Lanuza last July we have booked villa for June 2013. Like you we will not have a car. Was there a supermarket or any kind of shop in Venta Lunza for essentials or did you have to take tram to El campello for grocery shopping? We keep getting told yes there is a shop by villa owners but have seen postings that there are no shops of any kind in Venta Lanuza.

Hi there,

It depends where in Venta Lanuza you are! We were up on Benferri so it was further to walk to the little shop than to the station. The tram to Campello is really easy to use and the Supercor in Campello is literally across the tram tracks and has everything you will need. There is also a fabulous bodega on a street to your right where you can fill 2-litre bottles with very drinkable red wine for a few euros.

We never visited the 'little shop' but I believe it is to the south of the station in one of the apartment/town house complexes. It has less regular opening hours than the supermarkets I think but may be useful for topping up if you are closer than we were. There is also a cafe/bar near the beach and a beach bar on the beach in summer. We only visited the beach once as we enjoyed the pool so much and it was stinking hot when we were there so we did not fancy the walk down.

Hope that helps- happy to answer any other questions about the area- we loved being in that part of Spain and are trying to fit in another trip this year. One other tip for the tram- you need to request the stop if no one is on the platform- I learned this the hard way and it is about twenty minutes to the next stop up the line (Paradis). The request buttons are on the tram doors and will flash when nearing the station so you know when to press them.
