Can I explore Lake Bogoria & Nakuru without a tour company?

I'm considering taking a matatu to Hell's Gate, Lake Nakuru, and Lake Bogoria. On separate days.

Is that possible and is it a bad idea? Once I'm at those places, do I have to be part of a tour company to get in?

It sounds like I can manage on my own at Hell's Gate and I get around on a bicycle, but I'm unsure what my options are to explore the lakes if I get to them without a tour company.

Thanks

You can get yourself in Lake Naivasha via Matatu from Nairobi but Lake Nakuru it might be little challenging for you since after getting in Nakuru town via Matatu you will still need an Safari Vehicle to take you to the park

You don't have to be part of a tour company BUT you will need "secure" transport to enter Lake Nakuru NP even though riding the Matatu is probably more dangerous than walking in the NP.

NPs in Africa are not to be confused with National Parks in North America.

Lake Bogoria is easily accessed. Just walk on in on the track by the airstrip to the shoreline.

Sorry. I got that last bit wrong. I was referring to Baringo not Bogoria.

My understanding is that Lake Bogoria's old shoreline has been completely inundated and there's currently no viable lakeshore road.

News from anyone who's been there recently would be welcome.
