I can't comment about HCMC but the Hilton Hanoi Opera (in Hanoi of course) was very nice, great location but the Sofitel next door seemed to have better reviews. In KL the Renaisance is right next to the metro rail station and good value for money.

I stayed at the Duxton a few years ago. Very central and very nice.
