I've been tracking fares from London to SFO and then LAX back for October and noticed all airlines prices have jumped $100 this morning. Is that normal or just a strange coincidence?

It's normal fares go up fares sometimes go down and if you were looking on BA site they had a sale on that finished yesterday.

Also depending when you are travelling in October is school holiday time end of month in UK.

BAs sale finished yesterday, and other airlines who are competitors track their fares. So, it's probably that.

United fare up £200 on yesterday. Hopefully what goes up can come down.

Rob, It's very likely there will be at least one more sale before your flights in October. The flights I booked on Monday with BA have gone up by nearly 50%, an extra £900ish. ( I don't normally check back but your post made me think I'd have a look)

"Hopefully what goes up can come down." - Yes it might but remember what goes up can go up again. Waiting for a sale is always a gamble as no sale covers all routes/dates and as time passes the cheaper fare buckets sell out leading to increased fares.

Trying to find that elusive cheap fare is like knitting fog - buy when you see a price you are happy to pay and don't look again.

Thanks for the tip. Looks like it will be cheaper to fligh Norwegian into and out of LAX and drive up to San Fran. Flights are £500 cheaper between my wife and I.

Be careful with the Norwegian long haul flights as their lack of longhaul aircraft combined with their lack of agreements with other airlines could leave you up the creek without a paddle should there be any major problems with the aircraft prior to your flight.

That is the long haul low cost trade off.
