Looking to fly BA Manchester to New York via LHR, how LNG do I need to leave between flights?
For a journey that's entirely BA and on the same ticket throughout, 60 minutes is the minimum connecting time at LHR and BA won't sell you a ticket with a connection less than that. If the LHR-NYC flight is actually operated by AA with a BA codeshare flight number, the minimum connecting time is 90 minutes as you would need to change terminals and go through security again, which isn't needed on a BA to BA connection. I personally would want at least twice the minimum connecting times to avoid rush and worry.
Don't try and book the two flights separately as it means BA have no obligation to help you if you arrive late from Manchester. They will help you to make the connection should the Manchester flight be late if you are on a through ticket, and if this isn't possible, rebook you onto the next flight with available seats.
Thanks Andy
For me I would leave much longer than the MCT. I presume you will book this on one ticket I would always plan that there is a later flight from MAN in case your earlier flight is cancelled.
If booking on one ticket BA will put you on the next available flight with seats, this could be next flight or a flight in several days.
So if you want to make sure you catch your flight leave a good amount of time, but if you don't mind a bit of risk keep to the MCT.
If I have a choice of a MCT or one that is slightly longer I'd opt for the latter. I prefer to wait around than to risk missing my connecting flight.
Thanks tom, wasn't sure who had direct flights, it didn't come up on sky scanner!
