43 min to clear immigration, wait for your bag, clear customs, drop the bag off, reclear security and get to your next gate? I wouldn't book this.

Delta is not alone in trying to sell international to domestic connections that I wouldn't even consider as viable - is 43 minutes even a valid MCT at SLC?.

Hi,

I bet DL's Int-Dom MCT in SLC is :40... but as noted above, and I agree with, this is a missed-flight that is just waiting for someone to happen to...

So, take something later.. this isn't a good idea.. I bet it can and does work for some. but unless there is real compelling reason to so, I wouldn't.

Are we mad that we've booked accommodation in San Jose, Los Angeles and New York before we've even paid for air fare?

Yes, it goes to MSP where there is a 1 hour, 40 minute layover, which is where you would go through immigration/customs (I still think that is a short time but probably meets the minimum requirement), then a flight to SLC, then the 43 minutes layover to get to San Jose. Wouldn't you be better off going through LAX with a three hour twenty minute layover, and only one change of plane?

No, I don't think you are mad to book accomodations and then look for airfare, assuming you have booked accomodation that is cancellable. At worst you end up cancelling your reservations.

Then yes, you are crazy. I hope you didn't use AirBnB in New York CIty. It's illegal in most cases.

If you're not clearing immigration in SLC, then 40 minutes is generally enough time, as long as you're willing to take a later plane if your first is delayed. But it's a hub, you usually have many options if something goes wrong.
