Is this LHR connection time do-able?

Is this LHR connection time do-able?

Just reserved flights on AA for our two daughters, ages 26 and 16, on a RT DFW to CDG in June. The return flight connects through LHR, from a BA flight that arrives LHR at 7:40, to an AA flight that departs LHR at 9:30. This will require a terminal change. Isn't this cutting it kind of close time-wise? Should I be concerned? On the other hand, since it is all on one PNR, if they miss the transatlantic flight, AA will need to put them on another one, right?

They will be fine. The minimum connection time required officially is 90 minutes. I doubt it will take more than 45 minutes.

AA will put them on the next available flight for free if they miss their connection.

Just keep in mind next available flight, in all likelihood, means a several hour delay or overnight. And I think it is cutting it close. It's going to require a terminal change, a probably very long security line. A bus ride. Do-able, but tight. Tell them to hurry.

If the Misses anglophile will be travelling on through tickets then their bags will be checked through from CDG to LHR and on to DFW. After disembarking at T5 they will need to go to Flight Connections for the bus ride to T3; buses are fairly frequent at every seven to 10 minutes, with travel time usually no more than 10 minutes.

Flight Connections Security at T3 may still be fairly busy at 0730, but ideally there will be enough staff on hand to deal with the connecting pax at that time of day. Some of the gates at LHR T3 can be a bit of a walk from the main terminal building, so remind the travellers to keep an eye on the departure boards.

They won't have a lot of spare time, but if their flight from Paris arrives on time they should be in good nick.

Yes, TP, they will be on through tickets so will only have to deal with their hand baggage. Thank you for the very helpful description of the process. And Sammy, the link to the LHR website is terrific. I notice they have a video of the process. Thanks all for your prompt replies.

How about taking Heathrow Express from T5 to T3? instead of taking a connector bus.

Taking the free HEX shuttle would take considerably more time. The Misses anglophile would need to go through passport control at T5 then to the station, with HEX trains just four times an hour. The train takes five or six minutes to Heathrow Central, but the walk from that station to T3 can take up to 10 minutes.

At T3 they would need to go through Security with all other departing pax, which at 0800 - 0830 will probably have a longer queue than T3 Flight Connections Security.

Staying airside will make for a faster and more efficient connection.

Heathrow express would be a ridiculous solution for this connection, why do you keep posting it?

To catch it they could queue for an >>extra<< 30 minutes plus to go through immigration, something they wouldn't do at flight connections,, they could conceivably even be questioned as to why they aren't using flight connections at immigration, and then after the trek to the train the wait for the train and the train ride they'd have to go back through security with all other t3 customers which apart from potentially beinga very long queue, has an absolute cut off time by which if you don't enter with I think 35 min to go you may not enter, which I believe does not apply at flight connections.

Add to that if you did not take the flight connections route the airline might not decide to put you on the next available flight, as you have taken a route that takes additional time.

All in all, it would be madness to do this.
