US Pre-Clearance: Only American airlines + Aer Lingus?

What are the rules? I'm looking at a flight that goes like this:

DUB-JFK (British Airways) -- JFK-SFO (American Airlines)

I think I remember reading somewhere that Lufthansa departs from T1 so probably not an option if I want to go through clearance in Dublin. All the other flights are either beyond my budget or have really short layovers. Also, is US Airways as bad as people make it out to be?

Wes I fly coast to coast and can't ever remember getting my own IFE in coach think the best I've encountered was a drop down screen
