We just traveled on Fiji Airways in mid-December 2013, from LAX to Sydney and from Auckland back to LAX. The new planes (Airbus 330) would apply to the long-haul portion of the flight from the US to Nadi. The planes are nice and clean. No issues with entertainment sets. However, the economy seating is tight (I find Boeing 737 economy seats on Fiji Airways to be a bit more spacious).

The problems we encountered were not with the plane - they were with the airline. We were an hour late to leave LAX and nearly missed our connection to Sydney, due to luggage scanning issues. The food on the plane is miserable, as many posts have indicated. The meals usually consist of some type of sandwich, and you do not get a choice.

On the way back to the US, our connection in Nadi to LAX was delayed 9 hours! No explanation. Thankfully, the airline provided us with hotel, transfers, and a meal. However, the airline refused to help other travelers who had other connections from LAX to another city. Poor customer service.

Also, the check-in team at Auckland was very rude and denied us using a car seat in the airplane. We had used the same car seat on the flights from LAX to Sydney with no issue. Clearly, the staff had no sympathy or understanding for travelers with children.

I hope this helps! If I were you, I'd spend extra money for another airline to avoid these hassles.

I've been on the A330, and the B737. Actually found the older style seats in the 737 more comfortable. The seats in the A330 are pretty much industry-standard, slimline, economy seats, pitched more toward a budget or low cost carrier airline. The plane itself was fine. New, quiet, and smooth. (Give it a few months, I guess.)

I read a lot of reviews about Fiji Airways before we left and was worried about taking them for the first time. My husband and I fly to Australia all the time and have experience with many airlines. We used Fiji Airways to Sydney out of LAX on Dec 9. We were very pleasantly surprised by the sincere concern and helpfulness we received from everyone in the airline beginning with Tanya at Tabua Club and Tabua Club customer service on the phone, and continuing to Madhu and her supervisor at the LAX check in. We also enjoyed the pleasant and friendly ladies at the Tabua Club lounge front desk in Nadi and were very happy to be able to take a shower before heading on to Sydney! It was the flexibility and helpfulness of great staff and excellent customer service at every step that made the trip enjoyable. Thank you Fiji Airways!

Different airlines have different rules for what you can take on board, car seats included. No excuse for rudeness, though, and I'm sure they will take it up as an issue. With delays, seems like they looked after you fine.
