Urgent talks are to take place tomorrow to try to stop strike action by baggage handlers and check-in staff at Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester and Stansted airports.

1. Re: Strike threat for Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester and Stansted

You had me worried... but fortunately it only affects some airlines, those handled by Swissport.

* Stansted airport: Ryanair, Thomas Cook and Thomson

* Manchester airport: Monarch, Thomson, Thomas Cook, Virgin Emirates

* Gatwick airport: Monarch, Thomson, Thomas Cook, Virgin and British Airways

* Heathrow aiport: Virgin

Phew! (The only flight I've got booked out of any of these airports in the next few weeks is Easyjet from LGW)

The one hour strikes (Im looking at MAN) is due to take place next Monday (between 6-7am). Then Monday Thursday and Saturday. But the items I have read say its the security staff?

More than enough to affect a lot of people if it goes ahead I should think.

Swissport have only voted in favour of strike action. They then have to give 7 days notice before they can actually strike. They're still in talks tomorrow.

Does not affect me either I fly in a couple of days Friday, however I do feel for those travelers who may have disruption to travel plans and all that goes with it....I would not of minded a 2+% of a pay rise....

Pay rise? what's that?

Not had a salary increase in 3 years, and scarcely expect one since I retire in 10 weeks.....

Hmmm. I have LGW-MLE in 2 weeks and MLE-LGW-BDA 2 weeks after that.

Thanks for posting. Potential for quite a bit of disruption!

Do Swissport operate security as well as baggage handling?

Swissport are ground handlers. (baggage, check in, gate staff, ramp staff etc.)
