Well there will be very little wind and no water so you won't be able to use it.

It's probably best you check with the airline involved.

Doubtful they will let you on board with it, and if they did others are not going to act kindly when you take up an entire overhead bin with it. Good chance of damage as other shove their bags in.

Pack it properly and either check it or ship it via FedEx.

Why do you have to transfer it by plane? Why not just use a courier company and ship in the way most things like that are shipped?

Will it go in a bottle? (Sorry). Suspect you'll have to freight/courier it. How fragile is it?

The sort of trouble that sees you have to pay an extra £100 for another hold bag I'd think as I cant see any airlines letting you take it into the cabin, its far too big. Find a carrier that allows a hold bag slightly bigger than that (to allow for packing material) , put it in a suitcase, and take it that way.

ps whats a non commercial flight?

This is real fragile, I guess I'll have to build a box for it and ship it.

I was going to just hold it in the seat with me.

It sounds like you don't fly much? You cannot hold anything on your lap for take off or landing so the ship would have to either fit under the seat in front of you or go into the overhead bin.

IF it doesn't fit then it needs to be checked luggage.

Its 4ft long :-)

It may be cheaper to find a suitcase or box you can pack it in and take it as hold baggage (eg check it in)

Hi, I also have some RC stuff, not any sailboats but know what the rig & sail is like. You have no way of taking it as carry-on as it exceeds the size limits. Also airport security may not like the idea because of the metal parts. Buy a case or make a padded box for it and take it in as checked baggage or have it shipped. I guess you are participating an RC sailing competition in Florida?
