Buying tickets at the airport

I hope this doesn't seem like a silly question, but in the 80s and 90s, we could buy tickets at the airport and usally avoid paying the extra fees. Does anyone know if this still applies? I don't mean last minute tickets, but even buying them up to a year in advance. Thanks to everyone who answers!

Those days are long gone. They charge higher fees at the airport because you have to deal directly with an agent that requires a salary, benefits, computer terminal, desk, etc. The airlines want you to buy online because it is the cheapest cost for them.
